Covid-19 Level 4

Current Situation

NZ has shifted to Alert Level 3 immediately and will move to Level 4 within 48 hours (by midnight Wednesday 25th March 2020).

This means everyone needs to prepare for self-isolation over the next 48 hours. Schools and all educational facilities close tomorrow, except for the children of essential workers such as health staff. They will be fully closed from midnight Wednesday, along with businesses except essential services such as supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics, and lifeline utilities. Travel is severely restricted and only for essential services.

Alert Level 4 is expected to continue for 4 weeks at this stage.

We recommend visiting Covid-19 pages released by the New Zealand Government to check for updates. The most relevant pages we can currently source are:

Will Wendekreisen Be Open?

Wendekreisen will be partially open for the duration of the Level 4 Covid-19 alert. As we are providing accommodation services to people in isolation/quarantine, we are classed as an essential business. This means we are allowed to operate to serve those customers currently isolating in our campervans. Wendekreisen will keep operations at a minimum to ensure people can return their vehicles and fly home. We will also be able to respond to urgent servicing requirements. Please understand that we are scarcely staffed and are not operating at normal capacity. Our doors are open to returns and emergencies only. All depot visits must be booked by email to reservations@wendekreisen.co.nz . Phone support is also available on freephone 0508 109328 to help where necessary.

HOW DO I REFILL LPG GAS BOTTLES?

You can swap bottles in our branches by appointment. Please email reservations@wendekreisen.co.nz to notify the date and time of your visit. We will then reconfirm the appointment to you by email. The cost per 9Kg bottle swap is NZ$40 and $25 per 4.5Kg bottle.

We have compiled a LPG Gas Bottle Directory.

HOW TO RETURN VEHICLES?

Our depots will be scarcely staffed but open for returns. If you are catching an evacuation flight home, you are allowed to drive to our depot regardless of your location. Please pre-arrange the return with us by email reservations@wendekreisen.co.nz. We will reconfirm the appointment by email and ensure that our staff will meet you at our depot unless you are returning after hours. For after hour returns, please pre-arrange a taxi to take you to the airport. Any extension fees will be charged for the days used only. We will not charge for unused days. If you are returning during business hours, our staff will ask you to pay in the branch. If you are returning after hours, we can access payment remotely the next day. Please let us know if you did not refill your gas bottles. We can do this for you and will charge $25 for a 4.5Kg bottle and $40 for 9Kg bottle. Please return your vehicle reasonably clean, with a full fuel tank, with the grey water tank and toilet emptied.

I NEED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Our technical assistance is available to you. Please follow our normal procedure to call freephone 0508 109328 (Option 1) to receive technical assistance. Our teams are equipped to help with technical support.

Where Can You Travel?

Regardless of what you may read or think, the purpose of the level 4 travel restrictions is to isolate yourself in one location. Although minor travel activity (i.e. to the supermarket) is permissible, you should ‘bunker up’ at a location you can reference to officials that may ask. In other words, you should not travel after midnight Wednesday 25th March.

How Do I Extend My Campervan Hire?

Please call us on 0508 109328 to extend your campervan hire. We will find a way to make things possible. Wendekreisen will allocate a 30% discount to the current daily rate for any extensions. You can pay for your extension when you return your campervan. We will not charge you for unused days of your extension.

WILL CAMPGROUNDS BE OPEN?

Campgrounds are essential services and permitted and encouraged to stay open during Alert Level 4. However, shared facilities must not be used and owners may wish to close these off where possible.

WHERE SHOULD I STAY?

Self-contained vehicles can be used as accommodation by persons that are self-isolating. Self-contained vehicles have a toilet, water and waste facilities and will display a sticker confirming they meet the Self-Containment Standard NZS 5465:2001.

Those using self-contained vehicles to self-isolate are strongly encouraged to stay at commercial camping sites, if available. They must remain at the same site for four weeks or until the Alert Level is reduced. Note that during Alert Level 4, Department of Conservation campsites will be closed, along with many local council-owned freedom camping spots. Vehicles that are not self-contained must not be used for self-isolation. Those currently living in vehicles that are not self-contained must find alternative accommodation while New Zealand is at Alert Level 4. People seeking assistance with finding temporary accommodation for self-isolation should call the Temporary Accommodation Service on 0508 754 163.

Report Your Location

Once you are set in a location, please call us on freephone 0508 109328 to report that location to us. This will mean that we can record that location and confirm the location to any officials that may need verification of your location.
